treatment: 'coyote', a native-american common shaman/trailscout meets & discusses 'the vibes of man on nature' with people along the trail, from his green mountain near woodstock, to 'the city of hollow mountains' (nyc), where he works. this project was inspired by nothing but the fact that this particular film/video would be the most feasible and interesting project to come up with, and complete in the '72 hr' time frame. coyote is an amazing spirit that knows a little bit about almost everything that anyone could possibly bring up, and in some cases, he is a master of information! he is truly a magical entity and an asset to the present ever changing world we live in. half irish on his fathers side and half cherokee on his mothers side, coyote is a modern day shaman with no desire to drink fire water, but would prefer a good pow wow with some kind 'smoke', and a lot of fun along the way. his spirit is wonderful! i, the filmmaker, will follow him from his home near woodstock to my loft in manhattans meatpacking dist. much of the NYC scenes will be shot on my rooftop, and in the fastest changing neighborhood in NYC!

i will explore the history of coyotes people, my people, my neighborhood, & the loss of the spirit of NYC!

statement of style: this project will be shot as a docu-drama. most of the scenes will be free-flow with friends that we meet along the way. my inspirations are fellini, jarmusch, cassavettes, and a hand full of others.
the past year and a half has taken a lot out of all of us. i feel this project will keep my mind off of 'other things' from manhattans recent past, and allow me to accentuate the positive, and all too often the 'unbelievable truths' in our daily lives in NYC, & beyond!

timeline: it can be, or i wouldn't do it this way! it is all about careful planning for spontaneous effects. one has to be structured for the unexpectable, because life is what happens when ya wanna be do'n something else. i will follow coyote from his home near woodstock to my loft in manhattans meatpacking district.

director bio: www.stevebilich.com

cast & crew bio: i hope to world premiere coyote at cannes '03 in a short film that i have created, "Manhattan a moving picture postcard." the film was shot with a 1920 hand-crank cine-kodak camera (b/w). if chosen, "the way of the coyote" will probably be shot on a digital medium.

score: 18 out of 30 possible points
